Sustainability Feedback
Please give us some feedback on how we could improve our sustainability initiatives
Our Sustainability Promise
At Station Hotel Aberdeen, we recognise the influence and impact that our business has on the environment and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to sustainability and to minimising our environmental footprint, while enhancing the wellbeing of our guests, employees and local communities. We are supported in this journey by our sustainability accreditation partner, Green Tourism.
Supporting Our Community
We are dedicated to supporting our local community and showcasing the best of Scotland. We proudly support Charlie’s House, a charity providing assistance to families with children facing life-limiting conditions, and work with AFC Community Trust to help local people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Additionally, we regularly donate raffle prizes to support cancer research and DAWGS.
Our commitment to local businesses is reflected in our use of locally sourced produce and suppliers, with McWilliams of Aberdeen providing our meat. In our bar, we celebrate Scotland’s rich heritage by promoting Scottish whisky and ensuring our team is well-trained in Scottish whisky and gin knowledge, offering guests an authentic experience.
Environmental Initiatives
We aim to minimize paper waste by only printing on-site when absolutely necessary and have built a bug house while spreading wild seeds in the surrounding area to encourage local biodiversity. In our rooms, we’ve replaced all single-use toiletries with reusable ones to reduce waste.
We actively monitor energy consumption, sharing monthly reports, and have upgraded to LED lighting fixtures throughout the hotel. 50% of our bedrooms feature lights that automatically turn off when the key card is removed, with plans to expand this as part of ongoing refurbishments. To improve energy efficiency, we’ve replaced our boilers and water heaters with energy-efficient modules and closely monitor water usage on a monthly basis to ensure conservation.
Our Team
We use EV vehicles for company operations and promote sustainable commuting through our cycle-to-work scheme. As Gold members of the Mental Health Charter, we provide our team with access to a mental health app and have established policies for mental health, wellbeing, and menopause support. We ensure our staff is equipped to contribute to our sustainability efforts through sustainability and biodiversity training, with an appointed sustainability champion on-site. Our commitment to inclusivity is reflected in the Diversity & Inclusion strategy we launched in mid-2022, fostering a supportive and diverse workplace for all.
Guest Support
we are committed to sustainability and accessibility, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive experience for all our guests. Our accessibility statement is available on our website, and we provide accessible toilets on the ground floor, along with portable ramps when needed. For guests with specific needs, we offer a vibrating pillow to ensure comfort. We take pride in offering a variety of vegetarian and vegan options on our menu, and can accommodate dietary and religious requirements, such as gluten-free and halal options.
To promote sustainable travel, we provide public transport information at reception and on our website, along with details on local EV charging points, making it easier for guests to make eco-friendly choices during their stay.
Your Feedback
We value guest feedback and input in driving innovative ideas to reduce the environmental impact of our hotel. We encourage our guests to send feedback to each venue, sharing their ideas and suggestions for reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting sustainable practices. By working together with our guests, we can continue to build a sustainability program that provides guests with the flexibility and freedom to stay in a way that aligns with their values and preferences, while also contributing to a more sustainable future.
